lucie is always listening to the call of the wild.




see? here she is at a mindnumbingly early hour, contemplating what her day has in store.









little did she know then that she was going to the woods!

dogs aren't technically allowed off-leash, but there was no one around. and she is so good.









she went straight for the mud, of course.









but why stop at the mud?









she was always on the lookout for some of her fellow wild animals.









this toad hid in a hollow treebranch when it saw her coming.









descending into a cave, lucie begins to glow like the hound of the baskervilles.

it was hot. there was a lot of panting action.









of course, she was too busy exploring to actually look at the camera.









this ratsnake was shaking its tail furiously as it regurgitated a live cornsnake.

lucie ran around it in circles a few times, but luckily did not try to pick it up.









my dog is spring-loaded! especially in the presence of disembodied arms.

see all that stuff dangling from me? it's all for lucie. dog whistle, leash, treats, clicker,
different treats, water bottle, special you-answered-the-dogwhistle! treats, plastic bags,
drinking cup that she ignored in favor of the disgustingly black rainpuddles...

I thought she looked like a funny fox with her legs all black from the mud.

at a clearing that overlooked the lake below.

by this point, lucie had been running around for three and a half hours straight,
but she insisted on dashing up and down those rocks like a child at a playground for the very first time.









this is what it looked like. after we contemplated the lake for a while...









... we ran down and jumped into it!

it was the kind of day that made me wish I were a dog.
