I asked for music suggestions and promised a postcard to anyone who gave me the name of an album that would change my life. (well, something like that.) as it turns out, my readers have very good taste in music, and I ended up with a lot of new discs that I'm not sure how I had managed to miss for so long!

these are the "postcards" I sent out as thanks. when I bought the cds I picked up handouts from all the stores I visited, so every card includes at least one element from the store where the cd was purchased.

images are the property of their recipients -- they're archived here as a digital collection, but they belong to the people who possess the originals. please respect that.

this one is a mishmash. the fish is from the program guide to 88.1 fm, cambridge's indie community radio station. the winged being is from a concert promo sticker. everything else is from a free music zine. apparently it's feeding time in the parking lot.

here we have two men performing some sort of ritual dance with flowers and another man getting peppy hair. peppy hair boy is from a little book put out by a local man who has far too much time on his hands (and who apparently likes playing with scissors and glue as much as I do). the title of this particular little book was "the dog of love." romantic, huh? note the people swimming by in the background. I think they were in the 2000 summer olympics.

it's the road to euphoria! and look how many people are on it! the runners are from a copy of sports illustrated I rescued and later recycled. the sun-flower is from an ad for a club, the text is from the headline of a mag article, and that oh-so-euphoric woman is from an astralwerks sampler.

deranged apes from a compilation ad. I guess I don't blame them, though, because I turned their sky into sparks (from national geographic) and put a giant golden beetle on their monolith. oops!

every single piece of this one comes from the high-gloss, low-substance music rag "vibe." the little boxes are doors with graffiti. if the magazine copy is to be believed, asse is the most popular candy bar in korea. look closely at the picture in the lower-right corner and you'll see that the beatles' revolver is holding up a whole stack of cds seemingly by magic. and finally, this wall has an interesting warning on it:

the flowers and butterfly are from a free postcard from tower records, except that on the postcard the sunflower had a cd in its center, so I put a more normal-looking one from natgeo on top. "your ears pop" from a very brightly colored music ad. I like to think that the butterfly is flying so high up into the clouds that its ears are popping. (and apparently butterflies
do have ears!) look carefully at the background...

a comic I found in vibe, somewhat rearranged. the background is from a natgeo chart about undersea life. you wouldn't believe how often vegetarians get offered fish for dinner...
